Tyler Perry is Being Sued for $260 Million Over a Sexual Assault Lawsuit

So Onye Straw—Tyler Perry—is currently sunken deep in a sexual assault lawsuit that’s demanding a mind-numbing $260 million (Two hundred and sixty million dollars).

This entire case stretches back to 2019, when Derek Dickson, an aspiring actor, had been invited to a party at Tyler Perry’s mansion. Somehow, something about him caught Tyler’s attention. Tyler walks up to him during the event and, as Dickson tells it, he makes a casual but promising offer. Tyler asks him if he was interested in becoming a Hollywood star actor, and that was all it took to have Dickson’s interest. Dickson himself has always wanted to be an actor. So he accepted the offer before him because he saw no strings attached.

From there, they cling to each other for the rest of the evening. Not physically, but socially. Mingling together, talking, getting to know one another better. An early bonding that, in the moment, probably felt harmless.

But now, inside the details of the lawsuit, Dickson breaks down the full extent of what he says happened next. And it’s not just a vague claim. He gives four distinct incidents that supposedly took place across the course of knowing Tyler Perry.

Incident One: The Party Night That Started It All

Tyler Perry

This is where the foundation was laid. According to Dickson, it was at the same event where they first met. He says he drank the alcohol Tyler had offered him, probably more than he should have. Tyler, seeing he wasn’t in the best state, offered him a guest room to lie down, undress, and rest. Dickson accepts the offer, and that’s where things begin to shift.

As he’s resting, he claims Tyler slid into the bed beside him. There’s no clear escalation on Dickson’s part, neither did he exert any sudden aggression. He says Tyler lay next to him and began hugging him and rubbing him gently, that was it, just hugs and rubs. But still, in that vulnerable moment, he felt something very unsettling. Even though Dickson didn’t question it or flee, something about it haunted him.

Incident Two: The Trailer Encounter

Soon after the party, Tyler follows through on his offer. Dickson gets a job on a new TV show, The Oval. A real opportunity. However, this second incident unfolds while on set.

Dickson is invited into Tyler’s personal trailer. There, Tyler offers him alcohol again, and yet Dickson has no resistance or refusal; in fact, he says he gulps it down, and more follows. Drink after drink. Until Tyler reaches out and places his hand on Dickson’s private part, rubbing and massaging it. That’s all that happened in this second round. Nothing overt, but again, the pattern is repeating. First isolation, then alcohol, and the touch.

Incident Three: Tyler’s Private Island

Incident Three: Tyler’s Private Island

Now this one takes things to a completely different level.

According to Dickson, the third incident happens somewhere you wouldn't expect, Tyler Perry’s private island in the Bahamas, one he calls “The White Bay Cay”. Yes. An actual private island. Because let’s not forget, Tyler is a billionaire, and he has always lived like one.

Dickson is flown out to the island, and like the many other times, Tyler offers him alcohol again. And Dickson takes it. This time, he claims he drank because he was afraid, afraid that saying no or appearing difficult would cost him his job. He felt stuck. So he drinks.

And then, as he puts it, Tyler reaches for his private area again, this time with intention. Tyler rubs, he squeezes, and he continues. According to Dickson, the whole thing spiraled into something he didn’t know how to process.

Incident Four: The One That Broke Him

After the island, they stop talking for a while. Then in June 2021, Tyler reached out again and invited him over to the mansion. Why Dickson agreed to go back isn’t clearly explained, but he doesn’t refuse. He shows up again, and this time, Tyler wants to show him something new.

A weighing scale.

As stupid as it sounds, Dickson honored the invitation to see a scale. Tyler supposedly tells him to get undressed, to the point of being in just his underwear, and step on it. Dickson says he follows the instructions. Once he’s standing on the scale, Tyler observes him and says,

“Good weight.”

But that wasn’t the only thing he said.

Tyler then asks for a hug before Dickson leaves. Dickson agrees. But once they hug, it shifts again. Tyler reaches for his private area one more time. This time, Dickson says he froze. His body didn’t move. He was terrified. Tyler apologized after the act, blaming it on alcohol again.

But that moment, according to Dickson, was the final straw. Now, why was this the last assault?

Dickson leaves Tyler’s mansion that day completely overwhelmed, distraught, and mentally broken. He begins counselling. And there, in therapy, he gets diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder—PTSD, which was attributed directly to the repeated physical contact, the private area rubbing, and the emotional confusion that came with each encounter.

Eventually, Dickson sees a lawyer. And together, they draft a 46-page lawsuit. Although the document holds mostly reported speeches, it also includes specific details, screenshots of text messages that allegedly implicate Tyler Perry, and a timeline that attempts to show the progression of it all.

Still, the lawsuit rests heavily on Dickson’s word. There are no physical witnesses, no public confessions. It’s mostly a he said situation.

When you strip it all down, it comes to one burning question: would Derek Dickson really go this far, to publicly accuse one of the most powerful Black men in Hollywood, just to get a massive payout?

And why now?

Tyler Perry is in the middle of his peak season. His latest Netflix release, STRAW, is already being called a hit. He’s at the height of his career. The timing of the lawsuit feels... calculated. Or is it just when Dickson finally gathered the strength to speak?

It’s hard to say.

There’s every reason to be cautious before jumping to conclusions, but there’s also every reason to listen. Sexual assault cases are rarely straightforward. And public opinion is already in a split, some people are defending Tyler, others are pointing out patterns we’ve seen before in other high-profile cases.

Still, $260 million is no joke. However, in all common sense on what is just and true. The real question will be;

Is there a good reason for Derek Dickson to lie?

Would the Jury think Dickson is just lying to get a whopping share of $260,000,000 USD from Tyler in this peak season? Or would Tyler settle this case outside court for an undisclosed amount?

What do you think?

  2. All I see is a failed actor trying to defame a man who has worked really hard to get to where he is.
